The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Lukewarm Response

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a clearer direction.

The president noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full text from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our audience.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. Following a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the evolution of the game in the time to come.

David

Background of the New Leader

Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Vision

The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that evolve every round. Do you safely extract with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your squad can secure victory? The choice is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but players can anticipate more updates as creation progresses.
